Aston Down wacky races day, failed limbo attempt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcolS7W8oT0 filmed by Nick, this is not funny, do not laugh

From The CRCS blog

Although the wacky races never took place we had a good days flying. Exciting in the very gusty wind but a good laugh and it kept you on your toes or biting your nails if I could let go of the sticks.

We did have a barby cos I brought my own, (like to be self sufficient boy scout 'n all that)
I managed to fill brother and George and they couldn't eat or drink any more.

Phil (the Fridge) Hayward erected his limbo poles using 8mm nylon rope, (Bloody Hell said Brother). I took photos with Phil's camera, and Nick B got it on film. Chris Bishop adjudicated from his chair in the pits and all others shouted abuse or encouragement (not sure which as it was very windy).

All set, Phil takes off in about 12 inches does 2 practice circuits and comes in for the limbo, (I am now bearing in mind the previous conversation from 5 mins ago. (yes says Phil I was one of the 6 winners at our last Limbo Comp, all six of us got down to 9 inches, I'm impressed) So I reckon he must be s**t hot at this game. (half right)

In he comes on approach, up a bit down a bit --------------Bullseye! YES!!!! Shout the spectators. He manages to hit the rope and tie it around the prop. The model is hanging in the wind like washing on a line. Suitably chastised by all present he has another go, me camera at the ready again. Exactly the same again!!! Can't believe it snap snap snap he he he!

"I think I'll call it a day" says Phil. Gordon passes comment about the suitability of the Limbo rope and Phil says "I've got some string", but we all pass.  Use this link to the movie on You Tube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcolS7W8oT0

Not ideal conditions but we all enjoyed the day, we had various other brave souls fly their large VTO Caps one with 50cc petrol who tried to amputate his finger my first aid kit came in handy.

Chris Bishop got out his new Biplane and had a couple of flights and John Dobson arrived with an invite to fly at Chedworth and passed it around for perusal. No doubt it will get on our website.

(Ahemmm... John it already is.... NB)

I then ran out of teabags (calamity)
I made Brother fly the Flea Fly and afterwards he said " Nasty little beast" might have been a bit windy. Bored with the Flea Fly we got out the Wifirskin. Brave or what, very hairy take offs but surprisingly stable flight in the very windy conditions. The undercarriage expired though on the third landing so we all decided to call it a day at 16:45.

SCSA NEWS

Wednesday July 15th the electric thermal comp took place, there was still a bit of a westerly breeze, this favoured the heavier gliders who pushed forward and gained some assistance from the slope lift. The handicapping worked well, the two highlights struggled against the breeze.
I was 1st with three wins and Chris Bishop 2ndwith  two wins and a 2nd
