Zooming is method of cheating to beat height limiters in electric soaring. I got this from spencer
have had a go at predicting the zoom using my model and have
produced the attached chart, which is specific to your model. I
hope I have got the numbers something like right.
As I mentioned in an earlier post I was a bit short of data at relatively low powers and the stuff you have provided has filled in the gap. It has worked out quite well. As you can see for a power loading of about 210 Watts/Kg .(your Shadow taking 500 Watts ) the model predicts a zoom potential of about 35m-which is more or less exactly the same as you observed (just a lucky coincidence as the methods I have used are very rough indeed). At lower powers I have found it quite difficult to get to the
predicted zoom potential as everything needs to be just right.
Using a Cam limiter helps, as there is no anti-zoom feature, but
the prop size and launch profile must also be right as well. It
looks like you are a champion zoomer! ![]() |
Malvern SA News Events http://www.malvernsoaringassociation.co.uk/cal12.html results http://www.malvernsoaringassociation.co.uk/lb.html With the prospect of Winter approaching faster that any of us would like I have started thinking about running our annual Winter Comps. I have discussed this with John Freeman, comp sec, and he is quite happy for me to continue. As a base line I have looked at the entries for each discipline for the current Championship events and it is plain that e-soaring has become the most attended type of event. This I will run 4 comps between November and February as follows:- E-Soaring at Upton, either AULD or BARCS rules style comps depending on the conditions. I plan to fly them on the first Sunday of the month, with the exception of November as this is planned to be the last Slope event of the current Championship. In the event of a postponement an attempt will be made to fly the following Sunday and so on until hopefully we manage to fit them in. Once again entry will be £2:00 with all monies going towards prizes ( for each event, not a league basis ) If you have not been to one of our comps before and are contemplating doing so please come along. You will be made most welcome and help and advice is always available. Look forward to seeing some of you early in November.
The indoor comp this year at Malvern will be a ministick event, with a build demo on the first club night (not flying night).
