Below a flight log from a flight with my electric shadow.

It is fitted with an anti zoom height limiter but was way over the 10% limit 10 seconds after motor cut which switched off at 190 metres to allow for the 11m/s climb.

I stalled it at 225 metres then hit strong lift

Midland Area Comp at Pillerton Hersey Sept 16th
For Self launching gliders

Hi Folks
A bit late with my report (not very good at these sort of things)
As Bernie said a bit of a blow, the forecast was for 5/6mph winds but I am sure it was more like 12/15mph cloud but no rain.
I am told that lift was to be found and as some slots went to 10mins there must have been just not for me?
I am sorry that some of you had problems with finding the field but pleased that you all made it in the end (it was a ploy to fool the southerners but glad that it did not work)
It was a pleasure to welcome some new faces and some old friends
The comp ran well specially with the help of Marlene, at lunch after 4 rounds we had joint leaders with both Mike Barnett and John Richards with 3000AND Martin Bell third on 2903
The 2mtr class was close with Cliff on 2250 and Gordon on 2123
The final results Martin has posted
A few of names to look out for in the future are
John Richards very experienced and I think the biggest challenger to Mike B in the future
Phil Hayward a new name to esoaring but has done very well in his first two comps
Bernie Jones will be good when he leans to fly (his new Supra that is)
James Morrison a young lad who will be beating us all before we know it

I hope you all had as good a day as I did and we look forward to seeing some of you at Dunston next month

Thanks for all your support
Bruce

These comps are great fun and very friendly, you can fly in the 2 Metre class with an Easy Glider or Radian, the launch is 40 seconds of motor run for the smaller class to reach 200 metres
I won 3 rounds but was well beaten by Mick who flew so well pushing way up wind into a strong breeze to find a spot where there was some lift

MSA esoaring 24/09/12

The competition scheduled to be flown was to the E-Soaring National Rules, but with rain forecast between 11.00am and 12.00pm it was agreed by all to fly all up last down instead.

Ken Aslett was not flying and he become Contest Director. Thanks Ken. It was agreed that a minimum of 4 rounds constituted a result. In the event we flew 5 rounds.

The first 4 rounds were flown in dry conditions with a wind speed in the order of 10mph. At this point there were 3 competitors on the same score. A fifth round was flown as a few rain drops started to fall. We completed the round and then the heavens opened. Thermals were not to be had and nobody achieved a max 10min flight in the 5 rounds.

Results were as follows:

Position Name Points
1st John Freeman 100
2nd Mike Grantham  90
3rd Phil Hayward  80
4th Malcolm White  70
5th Geoff Carter  65
6th Steve Hannon  60

This was the last of the summer Esoaring comps

The flat field duration local record stands at 1 hour 9 minutes for this year by Sqeela with his Electric Shadow. on Minchinhampton common from 150 metre launch.
My AVA did a longer flight but was flown by 4 people

This is for hand launched, bungee or one short motor run on a flat field without the use of slope lift

Adam holds the HLG record at 14 minutes

The local height record for this year is held by Chris Bishop at 2953 feet attained at GMFC
