World championship F3J  

The 2010 FAI Word Championship for Soaring Model Aircraft (F3J) will be organised by the Comité Départemental d’AéroModélisme du Jura (CDAM 39) on behalf of French Federation of AeroModelling (FFAM) from 31th July to 8th August on the Dole Tavaux airfield.

2010 BMFA British National Championships
Bank Holiday weekend 28-30th August

Paul & Tracy Gurr are planning a GMFC camping trip to the Nats at Barkston Heath Nr Grantham Lincs

Camping is £18.50 /person if paid by the 23rd Aug. £20.00 on the day.
Note; A camping pass allows full access to all events for the weekend with no further charges. Book with BMFA online or by phone.

Paul & Tracy have some tents available on a first come first served basis.

Gloucester MFC

BMFA Achievement Scheme "B" certificate.

Several members have expressed an interest in taking the BMFA Achievement Scheme "B" fixed wing test.

On Saturday 14th August I will be running an afternoon session of
 tutoring for the "B" certificate. This will take members through the requirements and give them chance to fly the required manoeuvres.

You will need a four function model capable of basic aerobatic
manoeuvres it can be I/C or electric but must be capable of
 taking of and landing from the strip.

Those interested please contact the chairman ASAP.

Normal club flying will carry on as usual but please allow a little time
for those practicing to take to the air.

Autumn Barbeque.

All your usual favourites cooked fresh all day.

After the midsummer disaster caused by the lack of Pork & Stilton sausages a pre order for 50 Kgs has already been placed.

Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th September

Please ensure that work has finished before you start flying.

There may be members of the Auto grass club carrying out various task outside these dates & times, please be vigilant and work together to ensure safety for all. It will be necessary to move all our bits and pieces to the container or elsewhere prior to both race meetings.

SCSA News
The SCSA are to fly a F3J competition against Malvern SA at Fish Meadow Upton upon Severn 15th August,  see http://www.scsa.org.uk/phil/news67.htm#thermal for full details.
There will be a practice session this week, give me a ring if you want to join us. 
We would welcome supporters and help. The comp takes place at a slow place, there would be plenty of time for you  to give flat field thermal flying a try

18th Aug HLG comp Wednesday evening 7.00PM Minchinhampton. Any model that can be hand or bungee launched can be used.. Three bungees will be laid out and a series of tasks set

We will go to the Bear about 9.00PM, only 5 people attended the last meeting, we will decide weather to hold the September and October meetings.

We hope to be able to rerun the summer thermal comp 22nd Aug, but we need a couple more return pulleys

Monday
A strong breeze on the west facing slope at Selsley early afternoon, This faded to leave weak slope lift, so weak Lionel couldn't talk his Gentle Lady above the horizon. Andy's explorer out thermalled my Starlight and a Shadow got higher than my AVA until I let Terry a novice fly it. 5 para gliders made the trip from from Frocester, one barley cleared the trees at the bottom of the slope. Later huge flocks of gulls showed the lift and the wind picked up on the north slope giving good lift

Tuesday
A strong breeze at Frocester, but the wind was a little too south and gave variable lift and some interesting landings.

 Wednesday

A strong breeze on Selsley giving strong but lumpy lift

A strong breeze onto the small slope at Haresfield

There was some heavy showers about, I managed an hour mid afternoon, before making a dash for my van when I saw the rain coming

It was $55 for the plane, $27 for metal gear servos (two wing and one elevator), and $38 for shipping. Just under £90 plus Rx and a 320mAh battery.

Kevin's DG1000 with its power pod out, when it folds away a rubber peg stops the prop at the right place, it folds down and the hatches close
