SCSA News
The SCSA are to fly a F3J competition against Malvern SA at Fish Meadow Upton upon Severn 15th August,  see http://www.scsa.org.uk/phil/news67.htm#thermal for full details.
There will be a practice session this week or next
We would welcome supporters and help. The comp takes place at a slow place, there would be plenty of time for you  to give flat field thermal flying a try

18th Aug HLG comp Wednesday evening 7.00PM Minchinhampton. Any model that can be hand or bungee launched can be used.. Three bungees will be laid out and a series of tasks set
This is the last of the fun comps for the summer, see last years report http://www.scsa.org.uk/comp09/hlg.htm
We will go to the Bear about 9.00PM, only 5 people attended the last meeting, we will decide weather to hold the September and October meetings.

Monday
A strong breeze at Selsley, but not a great deal of lift, Bill's Calypso went well and made a lot of noise. Alan flew his MU13
photo: http://www.ebley.plus.com/photo/xxxl-landing-selsley.jpg

Tuesday
Good lift at Frocester, Tim's Blade was hurtling about
Photo Bryan's Fox

 Wednesday

We flew at Frocester, but the wind was on Selsley, this made landing a challenge. Tim flew his Easy Glider, the Spektrum receiver lost its signal for a while, but recovered before it crashed, reason unknown.
My Slipstream failed to gain any real height

Thursday
A strong breeze on Selsley, but on the point giving variable slope lift. A Blade met a MiriJ in the air and came of worst but looks repairable.
I bought a Starlight 2000 3.3M F3j lunch time and gave it a try, it coped OK, but it came without the ballast which it needed to fly well in the strong wind.

Friday
I went to Frocester where the wind was a little too south to give good lift

Saturday
Smooth lift at Frocester, some thermal activity

photo: Tim's blade

Sunday
A light breeze at Frocester, with mostly good lift, The wind was light enough for John to fly his Gentle lady, but a bit too strong for my HLG. Bryan flew his scale Fox and foam Discus. Peter's  Sting was the best flyer of the morning, - very fast. Alan King's Sid King Top Line was well suited to the lift, this must be one of the best polyhedral models ever made. My Starlight 2000 was able to keep going when the lift faded.
The wind swung round to Selsley late morning, but we stayed and coped with the landing problems
I had the brief please of flying a Shadow 3.7 metre F3J, this model is a great flyer, easy to thermal and has a good speed range.
