News
A glider pilot took
his own life when he crashed the aircraft into the
ground, an inquest has heard.
Cotswold Gliding Club member Michael Hugh England, 57,
had left a suicide note before the crash on 14 June, the
hearing in Gloucester heard.
He borrowed a glider from the club, circled the airfield
several times and took a steep dive to the ground at
Aston Down Airfield, Gloucestershire.
The Gloucestershire Coroner's Court inquest was
adjourned until November.
The suicide letter was found by police at Mr England's
home in School Road, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham.
Mr England died of multiple injuries at the scene, the
inquest was told.

Ocean Crossing To
Hawaii : Second Attempt Aborted.
Will the third time be lucky?
The flight was postponed on June 23rd due to worsening
weather conditions above the Pacific.
Endeavoring to reach Hawaii from Japan to encourage the
use of clean technologies, the solar powered aircraft of
Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg will attempt the
longest exploration leg of the Solar Impulse’s
Round-The-World mission. We are now looking for a
weather window.
André will venture into the unknown: this flight will be
demanding and challenging particularly given its
duration: 120 hours on solar power only. It is a feat
never accomplished before in the world of aviation.

Tuesday flying at Fish Meadow, the
lift was very strong with just a light breeze
We had a very relaxed day of pleasant flying
I got to over 2300 feet on one flight but struggled to make
use of the lift many times and landed early
Malcolm broke his funfly ploughing into the ground at high
speed while trying to do a bunt, then complained because the
plywood split
Two of our members towed up a balsawood glider see the video
on YouTube, this was a light Balsawood model with a wing
loading of just 5 oz/ft

A para glider dropped in on us, he left the Malvern hills
and failed to find enough lift on a Cross country

Flying Diary
I flew my Electra on Thursday, it was flying well, but after
dethermalling both flaps jammed and both servos burnt out.
You can see by the flight log how the voltage was dragged
down by the load, I came down with full brake but this did
not draw much current, the flight pack was down to 9.5 volts
when I landed
I will have to sand off the wipers or wing, has anybody had
a similar problem?
