A pleasant afternoon at Haresfield, the trees were quite busy, leaping out and grabbing models

Frocester was good this afternoon, very smooth with a little west in it making the bowl flyable. Enough lift for my scale jobby but the bricks would have struggled
Selsley was not good, I think the wind was clipping Penn woods

Saturday

Frocester - Saturday afternoon.

The wind had swung from Selsley and died completely as a huge black snow cloud moved so slowly from the Severn in an Easterly direction missing us at Frocester, thank goodness! The sun shone down right into you eyes.

A very light breeze followed and Phil flew his Starlight and I watched! It eventually picked up to about 3 mph and we gave Tim Cooper’s new Zagi an airing. It went fine, just a couple of clicks of elevator.

Tim took control for the first time of a Chevron and really it was his first ‘proper’ slope session. He was progressing pretty well with 3 or 4 flights, when the lift all but disappeared and we called it a day.

I had a couple of flights with my Slipstream but it was hard work regaining launch height!

Sunday
The SCSA flew at Haresfield, other flew at Frocester

It varied quite a bit. I've just got back a quick flight at Haresfield (decent wind, surprisingly cold) then a longer flight at Frocester (less wind, but warmer and improving).

Frocester was weird - adequate lift high up, but if you dropped below the horizon you'd better have plenty of speed or you'd be struggling.

My Fiktor got a good workout - nobody can figure out how it manages to go forward into the wind, since it weighs almost nothing. But at least Phil has regained his faith in his flying abilities - he could fly it again now the dodgy rudder servo has been replaced...

SCSA News
Wednesday meeting 17th Feb
We watched the Steve Holland Farm Hand from design to flight video last night. It went on a bit too long on the covering etc, we skipped the fitting out with engine and radio chapter but it still went on till after 10:30.

It was suggested and agreed that we would have a "bring what you are building" evening again for the March meeting and then try and organise a Winter Thermal in March on the Sunday after the meeting.
I am going to send out an email to the members trying to rustle up some enthusiasm for the Malvern Challenge thermal. If we have enough people wanting to have a go, then we will take the time to run elimination heats to get the 4 man team. The date of the Malvern Thermal is now confirmed as 15th August on Fish Meadow.
