News

Mick and I went to the LMA show at Cosford last month. Great show, lot’s of traders and even decent weather. Highlights for me were the very large CV10 and Comet., which both looked great in the air. Also if you go next year, make sure you make time to go round the air museum as well. They’ve got all 3 V bombers and a great selection of other aircraft on display, including the Dornier that was fished out of the sea recently. See the attached photos.

Today we went to the Bristol model engineering show at Thornbury as well. A great way to spend a couple of hours admiring all the fantastic workmanship on display. Everything from home made turbine engines,  Steam engines, a large lorry/street scene, Meccano models,  railways, hovercraft, etc. There was even  a massive K’nex structure that was lifting marbles to the top, then they ran to the bottom and back up again (K’nex is a sort of plastic Meccano stuff). Also John Stennard was there doing an indoor flying display, which included a VERY speedy hovercraft. There was also quite a few traders selling a variety of engineering tools, from £1 drill bits, to £3000 CNC lathes.  See attached photos.

Incidentally the rotary engine bolted to a gun carriage thingy was a scale test bed, it wasn’t some sort of weird airplane device !

Colin Paddon from Great Britain wins Interglide 2013

Although the entry was a little down on previous years, some 30 competitors enjoyed an excellent competition using the new venue at Edgecott, not far from the traditional Marsh Gibbon site. The conditions were challenging although there was often excellent lift around but the strong (15 to 20mph plus) wind did limit how far anyone could follow lift downwind. However, essentially, it stayed dry and all competitors really enjoyed the event.

Spot landings were not used but the flying was still challenging enough, only Steve and Geoff managed to complete the 10 minutes slots, nobody managed to complete all four target times.

The results were:

1st Steve Hannon 100
2nd Geoff Carter  90
