From the CRCS

The Chedworth Club are hosting a scale fly in on Sunday 19th May starting at 10:00am.

It will be the same format as that which we used last October. Each pilot can claim a flying slot where they can fly on their own or invite someone else to fly with them.

We are all invited so come along and enjoy a good day with many great scale models.

Another Group on the Airfield

Resource UAS – Higunn X1 Drone

There is a company test flying these drones on the airfield. They have approval from the Gliding Club and like us are contributing much need funds to the club. They have been fully briefed about all the safety requirements with airborne gliders.

I made contact with Mark Whincup, one of the Resource UAS trainers to discuss what they do and how his company and our club should work together. The result of our discussion is that they do not want to fly close to us, which is not surprising when you consider that each one of their drones costs £40,000. No that is not a typing error, £40,000!

Thought for the day

Artificial intelligence stands no chance against natural stupidity.

The MSA Open - A grand day out

The weather was perfect and the lift variable strong enough for those with good eye sight to speck out.
Mike Raybone ran the comp with only a minor hitch when one of the bank of computers had to be rebooted

The launch was a little cross wind coming a little from the right which was OK for us as we had the left hand winch position, as we did not need to worry about crossed lines

I made it to the fly off but was out flown by Ian and Bob

Slope soaring

Monday
Strong lift at Haresfield

Went up Cleeve Common this morning. It was gusting 20-25 knots (at a guess) but warmish, comparatively, in the sunshine with loads of lift. Flew my mini-blade. Good to get on the slopes again, only the second time this year for me.
  Mike.

   Tuesday

Pensioners Day at Frocester today. Dan, Don, Bob and me enjoying the 20-35mph gusty wind. It blew us all over the place, but the models flew straight and true. Lee turned up for a quickie, with his Wildthing. He looked like he enjoyed himself too. :

Wednesday

Flying gliders, just the words sound serene, peacefully wafting a fragile > model across a slope searching for the best lift.
Today was nothing like that. The wind roared in the trees left, right and > behind the slope. The wind tried to snatch the model and slam into the  trees. It took all my ability to get the model, 1m Flik, to penetrate out  from the slope. Every move that took the nose out of the wind meant that  the model was being pushed back. Still gaining height and room meant I  could fly a few loops and rolls, then push out again, sweeping side to > side across the slope resulted in being driven closer to the trees, a  shallow dive to gain speed and creep out again.

I lasted an hour, then after landing, the wind took the Flik and blew it  up the slope and into the trees behind, no damage done luckily. Haresfield  small slope was quite a challenge for me today.

Good lift on Selsley

I flew my new Vladimir's Models Sprite Thermal-e and struggled to see it and fly it

I winched up my F3J Supra and had some good flights, there was a moderate breeze with some turbulence and very strong lift
