Learning to fly
It's been 10 months since I came along to the GMFC flying field and made lots of new friends.
What I most wanted to do was fly a helicopter.
I joined the club knowing that I was going to get help and advice.
Well soon I had my T Rex 600 nitro with training frame and began trying to hover. Not easy as all you who can remember learning will testify.
So I diversified with other helicopters and a Wot trainer. This broke up the disappointment of not being an expert in five minutes.
Well I persisted and today is a 'red letter day'.
Today, ten months after walking onto the flying field with loads of questions, today, I flew my first helicopter circuits.
They weren't perfect by any means but the helicopter was made by me deliberately to fly away and turn left and right and fly back towards me and then full circle. Six tanks of fuel and I still have a heli. in one piece.
I assure you that is a great relief - to overcome the fear of the aircraft flying away and then nose on towards you. Just to prove a point I did some nose in hovering and a couple of nose in landings. Impressed or what!
A message for all flyers who are still trying. KEEP TRYING - BE PATIENT
WITH YOURSELF - YOU WILL ACHIEVE.

New Cotswold Slopers Compass

The Cotswold Flyers have their own compass for choosing which slope to fly at
I have crayoned in some colours: green for good lift, light green for OK and amber for marginal

This will tided up when everybody is happy with the directions

The SCCA prefer Selsley for a north or NNE wind and don't include Cam Long Down or Leckhampton

The Cotswold Slopers have an interactive map for Cotswold flying sites click here help is needed with this project. Please help with editing the pages. The map will be colour coded to distinguish between prime and barley used sites.
If you have flown North Nibley, please let me have a few lines about the slope.

Indoor flying
A good turnout 29 flyers, a report will be posted later when CB manages to get the interweb to work

Slope/flat

This has been a good week with flying taking place every day of the week finishing with the best day on Sunday, this was a little light for the PSS bricks, but perfect for scale

Monday
very light lift on Rodborough in the bowl

Tuesday
Strong lift on the SE facing slope

Wednesday,
l
ight lift on SE facing slope of Rodborough, feeling warm with temperature rising to 0C

Thursday
Very light lift at Selsley, even my anorexic Viltis had trouble staying up

Friday
Rodborough SE slope, too windy, not pleasant

Sunday
From the forum

A cracking day marred only by the wind being a-bit-light and a-bit-Frocester and a-bit-Selsley.

Nice to see loads of people at Frocester, the talking-about-gliding pit was quite crowded Wink - but then the wind swung round to the point so a few of us went to try Selsley West. It was fine there and perfect for the landing practice

Editors note
The wind at Selsley was clipping Penn woods at times and spoiling the lift.
