News

There was collision between a model aircraft and a GA aircraft approaching Shoreham on 30th April ... as a result all model flying activity from 'Mill Hill' has been suspended by virtue of a Police notice at the model flying site. There are several web threads circulating in the model flying community to confirm this temporary ban.

Elsewhere it is reported that Police, CAA and AAIB are investigating the incident.

There was a similar incident north of Gloucester over Easter. Minor damage to the aircraft (£100), 4m wingspan radio controlled glider totalled. The BMFA representative I met, co-incidental to the incident, told me there were 800+ model flying sites in the UK. Perhaps there ought to be some improved co-ordination and awareness on the part of both parties.

Piliots of light aircraft should stay above 500 feet over countryside and 1500 over congested areas, I think they may go below this to land

ESC Burnout

This actually happened yesterday in our club. May 22, 2015. Not a glider but a very expensive F3A competition plane.

ESC malfunctioned shorted the battery. Fried airplane was the result. Never mind the triple battery system: Motor + 2 RX batteries with a redundant power supply.

Happened so fast couldn't save the plane.

Even the best plans get killed by Murphy!

I have no idea what could have been done to avoid something like this. Throw away the ESC every so-many flights?... so dishartening.

My next event eSoaring (South 2) - Sunday June 14th - East Worldham - Hampshire

Results from Martin

The results are distorted as as those in the south have only completed 2 comps, the winner at the end of the season will have a score of about 99.8% my 97 is well down.

Cliff's score of 87% is very good for the 2 metre class
