Report

The wind was blowing from the South West so we were flying on Frocester Hill. There was plenty of lift for scale models with about 10mph of wind.

The turn out was relatively poor, only six members entered.

There were 3 parts to the contest.
    1)     Static judging on how the model looked from a few paces away.
    2)     A dynamic section where the “scale-like” flying of the model was judged.
    3)     A weighting factor which was added depending on the build history of the model.

The weighting was based on how the model was acquired by the current owner. Fitting gear (eg ARTF type models and buying the model ready built by someone else) won 0 points. Building a kit such as a glass fuselage and veneered wing kit won 4 points. A scratch built model would win more points – but as nobody had this type we don't know how many points they might have won.

In the static judging Paul Ashford gained the most points, with his beautifully finished K8.   He was closely followed by Mike Brinkworth with his Pilatus. Everybody else had equal points.

The weighting factor punished Phil Hayward, Pete Wolfenden and Brian Boucher who had all only had to fit the radio gear (or less). Everybody else won the 4 points for building from a kit.

The flying section was very difficult to judge since all the models flew well and were handled very well by the pilots. It was hard luck for Mike Brinkworth who found that a quick-link had broken and so he opted not to fly.  Paul opted for “not on Frocester” because he hadn't rubbed the “newness” off his K8 yet and wanted to bounce it gently on Selsley first.

Bryan Tucker was the overall winner with his Purbeck Sailplanes ASW 27.
